Nomination Restrictions

  • Self-nominations are not accepted.
  • Nominators may not nominate individuals from their home institution. Campuses that are components of large university systems (e.g., UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco) are considered separate home institutions for this.
  • Nominators may not nominate individuals with an emotional relationship to the nominee (such as a near relative, current/former romantic partner, or former students).
  • Only one letter of support can come from the nominee's work institution.
  • Joint nominations will only be considered when nominees have collaborated closely — usually in the same laboratory — on the work to be recognized by the award.
  • If the award has an age restriction, nominees are considered eligible if they are no older than the restricted age on October 7, 2024.
  • If the award has an date restriction, it is based on the nomination deadline of October 7, 2024.
  • NAS membership is not required to nominate or to be nominated.
  • International nominees are eligible for nomination unless explicitly stated otherwise.
  • NAS Council members are not permitted to submit or support nominations or to be nominated for an award.
  • Unless otherwise specified, preference will be given to early-career scientists and those whose work hasn’t been recognized by other prizes or awards.
  • Only one nomination for an individual will be accepted for the same award.  An individual may be nominated for more than one award.
